Preparing Exterior Surfaces for Seasonal Resilience

Learn the vital steps to ensure your exterior paint job survives harsh winters and scorching summers.

Exterior paint fails at the preparation stage, not the painting stage. A premium topcoat over damp, chalky, or cracked masonry will not outlast a monsoon — the film is only as strong as what it grips.

The non-negotiable sequence

  • Pressure-wash and let masonry dry to below 12% moisture before any coating
  • Treat hairline cracks with flexible crack-fill, structural cracks with mesh
  • Kill fungal growth with biocide wash — painting over it feeds it
  • Prime bare patches; never spot-paint onto raw plaster

Timing matters as much as technique: exteriors need a dry window of several days. Our supervisors schedule exterior phases around the local forecast and log moisture readings before sign-off.
